Great Year For Radio North Coast

Radio North CoastRadio North Coast had a fantastic 2011 and we're looking forward to continued listener growth this year.

We eclipsed 625,000 listeners in 2011, had three top 125 radio stations (My 90s CountryMy 80s Mix and My Holiday Hits) on the Live 365 Radio Network of over 8000 stations, had two stations (My 80s Mix and My Holiday Hits) ranked number two in their format and launched My Classic Country.

We've already started 2012 with a bang by launching the fifth station on our radio network. My Faith Hits debuted in January and is already showing a very strong listenership. The station has a Christian format and plays praise and worship music.

We have one goal for 2012 and that is to top 1,000,000 listeners.

You can find the complete list of stations on our radio network at the following link http://www.radionorthcoast.com/stations.htm.

Why Live 365

Live 365

I was asked by Live 365 to write a blog about the success of My 80s Mix and what part Live 365 played in that success.

We launched My 80s Mix on April 15 2010 to an audience of 18 listeners. In a few short months our audience grew to 8,000 monthly listeners and in September of 2011 we had 27,762 listeners and 33,258 listening hours. My 80s Mix is a top 75 station on Live 365 and is ranked the number two 80s station based on listening hours.

I've since launched three more stations and created my own radio network (www.radionorthcoast.com) on Live 365. My 90s Country was the second station we launched and it has a very strong following of over 20,000 monthly listeners. We also own and operate My Holiday Hits, My Classic Country and two local stations.

Why did I choose Live 365?
I was in radio and on the radio for over twenty years and I wanted our station to be 100 percent legal, but also turn a profit. The fact that Live 365 pays all your broadcasting fees and pays you for VIP listeners was very attractive.  We were asked to become an X5000 station late last year, which means we now pay a Sound Exchange fee every year, but we pay nothing to broadcast on Live 365 and we earn triple rewards for VIP's. In 2011 we've received a VIP check every month from Live 365.

How Else Do We Make Money?
In addition to VIP checks, we also sell banner advertising on our radio network stations. We sell three month packages and place the advertisements on the Website pages of each radio station.

How did I grow my audience?
Live 365 does a wonderful job of getting Web traffic and putting your station in front of a lot of people. It's up to you to make your station stand out with imaging, music, personality and on the Web.  We run most of our stations with a jukebox format, but we include professional imaging and drive listeners to our station Websites, Twitter and Facebook accounts. We also pay for advertising on Facebook and on Google Ad Words. One free way to grow your audience is to become a featured station on Live 365.

What about Social Media?
We use Twitter and Facebook daily to interact with our listeners. It's a great way to remind your audience about your station or specific programming on your radio station.

What advice would I give to other station owners?
Run your station like a business and not like a hobby. Be passionate about your station and listen as much as you can to see where you can improve the music or imaging. Run the station live on a program like Sam Broadcaster so you can control every aspect of your broadcast. My 80s Mix is live 24/7 and 365 days a year from my office computer. I control the music rotation, station liners, station promos and we even air live shows five days a week.

Steve Jobs Quote On Death

I've been reading a lot of tributes to Steve Jobs today and I ran across a blog with the following quote from Jobs' Stanford commencement address:

"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.

Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Why do we settle for ordinary or routine? Why do we care what mediocre people say about our dreams and aspirations out of their own fear and jealousies. Don't live for fear of what your critics will say, but live as if your days are numbered and always remember you were put on this earth for a reason.

Solid Web Design Tips

When I first talk to a perspective client about their Web design needs I always want to know exactly what they want. From the message they want to portray to the color scheme and special effects they want to add to their Website.

An accountant friend of mine recently sent me an article titled "Make Your Presence on the Internet Count," which is a very good read for anyone deciding to rebuild or establish a Web presence.

The Whitcomb & Hess article points out five good guidelines to use when thinking about your future Web projects:

1)      Define a clear purpose for your site.
2)      Make sure your Web Designer understands your purpose.
3)      The most important part of any Website is content.
4)      Make sure your home page is simple to navigate.
5)      Ensure those viewing your site can contact you easily.

At Kyle Knight Media I believe in customer service first and foremost and understand that after your Website is built my relationship with the client is only beginning.

I'll gladly give you the contact information for my clients and let you talk to them about my customer service before and after the sale. Call me today with any questions at 419-871-1312 or use the contact us page on www.kyleknightmedia.com.
